It may also be his liver/cirrhosis. If his liver is having a hard time, the levels of ammonia can build up in the blood and cause a lot of the problems you describe.

I'm sorry your father has to struggle with all of these problems. Just be with him, tell him you love him and will make sure the docs take good care of him. And once things calm down, ask for the Palliative care team to come help with your father's care.
