My whipple surgeon told me I would need to take a PPI everyday for the rest of my life. However, after hearing the nbc nightly news report on the kidney damage in 40% of people that had taken PPI meds, I am trying to decide whether to stop taking it. I take pantaprazole (40mg)every day before breakfast. I asked my gastro dr. about it last week and he said he had been taking nexium for 15 years and has had no problems and felt like I should continue with the med. I am still not so sure about that as Ive never had acid reflux, but both docs say patients that have had the whipple develop acid refluz and need the med. I am tempted to go off med and see what happens but haven't done it yet. Hoping your tests are OK!!!
