My father was diagnosed about two weeks ago with stage 4 that has spread to his liver. He is a type 2 diabetic and has pretty serious cirrhosis. I live across the country. I visited last week and he seemed to decline everyday. His mental state is concerning and there are days he cannot bring a fork to his mouth. This is now being somewhat controlled with medication for ammonia. I have been home for a week and am beside myself trying to figure out when to return and when/if I should bring me three children (10, 14 AND 17). It feels so wrong to not be there. I am a teacher, but have saved sick days. Is there a way to know when it is time? I think I am looking for an answer that no one can give me. My Spring Break isn't until the end of March and that seems so far away. My sister tells me his skin is beginning to look yellow and he is in pain and exhausted. Is this us learning to titrate meds or is it truly this fast and horrible?
