I've just been diagnosed with IPMN and at this moment I do now have cancer but have a cyst in my pancreas. I just met with a pancreatic surgeon (after many tests) and we're waiting for some blood tests with current results CEA and CA 19-9 and a few other things. If the markers haven't risen, it seems the prudent thing to do is have the Whipple surgery. However that option is very scary to me to BUT the only chance for cure.

What can you all tell me about doing this procedure and the healing process afterwards. How do I best prepare for surgery and recovery? What are the costs and treatment down the road? Side effects, etc. I'm 64 and still working full-time. I had no symptoms and we really found this by accident. How can I help prepare my adult children for all of this?

My doctors final comment as to making a decision: What scares you most, the surgery or cancer? Any comments or information to other sites is most appreciated! Thanks you, Plaid
