Hello,

My mother was diagnosed last week with PDA. The tumor is on the body and tail of the pancreas about 49 x 23 with some affected lymph nodes and thrombosis of the splenic vein. Her doctor does not want to do surgery at this time due to ascites.

However, we got a second opinion from another doctor and he is much more optimistic about the treatment and is advising immediate distal pancreatectomy.

Can somebody tell me a little but more about ascites? Does that necessary mean stage 4 cancer? The doctor did not say it is malignant and I heard that it can be drained. I do not think they did any diagnostic tests on the ascites.
