You are a good friend, and while it is stressful for you to think about things like this for your friend, you can also be a helpful advisor.

She needs to get through this hospitalization, and should ask 'what was the cause of this'? But it doesn't have to be answered immediately. She is struggling with pain and nausea and inability to eat right now. That's enough. If they can't answer it now, then it is worth her seeing another pancreas specialist after she leaves the hospital.... once things have quieted down.
