Is he on zometa? This will help prevent fractures and further spread in the bone.
Where is his pain? Is it one specific bone location or multiple? Have the done any palliative radiation to the bone mets? Sometimes even just one radiation treatment can improve pain. He needs a palliative care doctor or pain specialist in the cancer center to help with his pain meds/treatments.
Sometimes chemo is continued, even is the markers are rising, if it seems to be helping his pain.
I am very sorry you are struggling with this.
We used a combination of radiation, morphine family pain meds, anti-inflammatory pain meds, and hot or cold packs on pain sites. When it got worse and my mom didn't want to increase the morphing, they added steroid pills. We also aggressively treated her depression with Effexor (which can also help pain) and chocolate donuts. Also consider medical Mariana or marinol.
The oncologist will not be able to manage this pain. Please get a pain or
palliative care specialist soon.
