Fortunately, my Dad's private insurance paid for it in the end. Medicare does not pay for it for 'screening' as you want to do.
But the cheapest option if you have to pay out of pocket is to just go to one of the private outpatient sights where you can pay to do the test yourself without doctor involvement. Here it costs $69. I suspect there will be an additional fee for the tech to draw your blood, but I'm not sure. Often these places are cheaper than if you do the test in a clinic/hospital setting.
However, I recommend doing the first test at your hospital/clinic. Then it
becomes part of your record. You can call the billing office directly before
hand to see what it will cost. The HCPCS code is 86301 (so they can look it
up). Maybe you'll be lucky and insurance will cover it.
