My mother had labs ans CT today. There is a mass on the portal vein, recurrance after whipple years ago. She has been on a Gemzar alone, cannot take platinum drugs do to cardiac issue. After 4 treatments Ca 19-9 decreased 50 points to 178. CEA remained the same 8.1. She had 2 more rounds of Gemzar and then scan and labs today. The Ca 19-9 is up to 208 and CEA to 10.5, all in 3 weeks ... How could this be?

Her liver numbers are elevated too, thought that was from chemo. Doctor will not talk to us until scan is ready.

Please has anyone gone through this?
