ascites is a condition of excess fluid that builds up when the body can't remove it. It can happen for many reasons and not all are related to cancer.

They can drain the fluid and that often can provide relief of the pressure for the patient. Sometimes, the drain can be left in so that it can be drained on a regular basis but carefully and any drains in the body can be a source of infection so there are very careful instructions to follow to keep the drain area sterile.

The real question to ask your doctor is why the ascites? Do they think they know why it is happening?
