Testing the fecal elastase level is used to diagnose pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, which can be caused by either chronic pancreatitis or a pancreatic tumor. Testing for fecal fat: if you have a high amount of fat in your stool, then fat is not being absorbed normally and you may have a digestive problem or absorption problem. One cause of malabsorption is pancreatic insufficiency, which may be caused by either chronic pancreatitis or a pancreatic tumor.
