My Mom took it. She initially was on Lexapro, and when it wasn't working well, they switched her to Effexor. The reason we liked Effexor was that it wasn't supposed to make her drowsy and help pain as well. Her pain was quite well controlled, until her bone metastases became a problem. But Effexor isn't good for that kind of pain.

Effexor is best for nerve pain. So it may help some of the abdominal pain that some have, and is being used for people who develop Oxaliplatin associated neuropathy.
