Hi Janice, I'm sorry your brother is going through this. With the distal the spleen is usually removed even without tumor involvement but I can understand why it would be delicate with involvement. He needs to have a very experienced pancreatic surgeon. I suggest calling PANCAN, The pancreatic Cancer Action Network. They can help with any questions you may have and help you with a list of experienced pancreatic surgeons in your area, which his surgeon may very well be. I had the distal surgery in 2003, my bio is in the bio section at the top of the page. My best to your brother and please keep us updated. Linda C
