I'm not sure it was the surgery since I was losing hair ten years before I knew a thing about pancreatic cancer :) When I was totally bald including goatee and eyebrows I traveled everywhere from Washington D.C. to Hawaii even northern Ontario and L.A.

Don't think of your hair loss as a dishminishment of your person, think of it as a badge of honor, you are a cancer patient being active and proud of it. If people ask tell them 'I have pancreatic cancer, I'll let you know if the tables turn and it gets me'
