My 70 yo Mom was diagnosed with inoperable stage iv pc in May 2013. Her Dr at MGH in Boston has not been optimistic and said we are not shooting for a cure. In July, Mom started on gemzar and abraxane combo and then, tried the highest dose of xeloda. The CT scans reflect some spread but her cancer marker cam back slightly lower. She got violent gi effects from the chemo (uncontrolled diarrhea and vomiting that did not respond to antiemetics) that required hospitalization for a wk. She is now scheduled to meet with a gene therapist to go over the results from the genetic testing performed on her liver biopsy and is on a waiting list to be considered for clinical trials. I have done much online research and reached out to many long-term stage iv inoperable pc cancer survivors to find out what treatment non-conventional options worked for them - i.e., nutrition, supplements, acupuncture, juicing. Nearly every one of them said supplements and nutrition. Anyone have any suggestions of things they have tried to slow/kill their cancer and help heal from the devastating effects of chemo? Thanks for any help. I am sending good thoughts out to everyone affected by this terrible disease!!
