Thank you so much for your words. What my husband has is a local oncologist (he is medical director of cancer center) a palliative care nurse practitioner,a patient advocate counselor and consultations with surgeon in the past with surgeon who did his failed distal at Stanford. Currently consultation with surgeon at COH and oncologist there. Like Stanford I do not believe they are talking with our local oncologist. I asked our local oncologist a couple of weeks ago in reference to the tightness and pain in my husbands stomach ( he did an ultrasound to R/O fluid) if we should get a gastroenterologist and he said no, that the gastro doctor would say oh, you are getting chemo let oncologist handle it. I am in a small city and PC experts are either Stanford or City of Hope. I have asked my husband if he would seek a consultation out of state and he said no. when I asked the young man who is a survivor and is the RN cancer care navigator survivorship program if we should go to a MD Anderson or JH he said we have been to the two top PC institutions in the west who were trained similarly that we don't need that. this gentleman had all his cancer treatment at COH as a young man and is up on all new treatments out there. We met with him at my request since they were not going to go over the new chemo regimen. I have to say the palliative nurse practitioner has been wonderful returning calls and showing up during chemos. My husband is comfortable with current care. again thank you for the input which is very much needed and appricated.
