Well, I have no answers. Here I am in sunny Florida staying with my parents for 2.5 weeks because my dad is decompensating. He at 81 is also a man of his generation, which means that his nurturing skills are limited although his love is big for my mom. So he does the best he can which is no quite enough. And money is tight. But we are hring some help, and getting some more through medicare. And my sister and I are coming down as much as possible--I find that it's very tough. It is my mom, but it's a woman my dad has loved for 60 years and that gives him certain rights. And you know, that generation hates accepting help. So, I guess my advice is to do the best you can. And ask their friends to call regularly to keep them connected. And if you have a really good friend or they do nearby--ask them to give some respite to your father as often as they are able.Good luck.
