I am like you, far away and don't know what to do. Mother has no one there, so I am the caregiver, from a distance at this time. But I know without my friends I could not function. Is your dad staying in touch with his friends? Perhaps they could come over and spend some time with him (watch a game, cards, eat lunch) You might even call them yourself and suggest this. I know I did this for a good friend. Didn't even ask her! Just showed up with lunch and said "If you've already eaten, then this is dinner!" She didn't have to get dressedup or worry about the house. Also maybe they could just sit with your mom while he goes to the store or pharmacy. I know sometimes just a few moments alone with my thoughts helps.
