Leane, if there is only artery/vein involvement then he can possibly become operable with chemo, radiation, and surgery. When my mom had her CT scan they saw suspicious spots/legions aside from her 6cm tumor..., but it ended up being fatty/scar tissues. We had this info to sit on & worry about for 3 or 4 days until the Dr. confirmed via other tests & further review that it was nothing. So, until the scan is reviewed by a team of Dr.'s & other tests, I would not completely panic right now.

I would suggest you start getting copies of all the scans, tests, etc and start looking for a second opinion. I heard you can send the info to Johns Hopkins for their review, but we took my mom in for the 3 day clinic & got in within a week. Hang in there, the 1st 3 months of my mom's diagnosis I thought I was going to lose my mind, but this board is a great place to get great information and support. Praying for you and your dad!
