Oxaliplatin can be rough due to the neuropathy. My mom also had severe pain withe first bit of food - and it would be any food (cold or warm). It was like a wave of pain, and she would sometimes cry briefly. It was such a shock to her. But the rest of the cold sensitive neuropathy was very tolerable for her. She wore cute little cotton gloves at times, avoided the cold stuff. But that first bite.... the docs said that is a more rare complaint, and didn't have any suggestions. We tried starting with a 'first sip' and easing into it.

Irinotecan (+5FU) cause the diarrhea. Talk with the docs about your symptoms and they can hopefully develop a clear protocol for what to do. We kept both Imodium and lomotil at home, and the docs will even alter the pre-meds at chemo if the diarrhea ever happens quickly after chemo. And always keep a spare change of clothes and bathroom 'supplies' in the car. Then you know you'll never need it!

Hang in there.
