The problem with this article is that it puts the question too simplistically. They give the example (appropriate here) of add-on to pc drug adding 2 more weeks to average survival time and then askingi f you would be willing to pay thousands of dollars for two more weeks survival. Obviously most people don't see a benefit in 2 weeks per se but the issue is that is an average and the question really is,if this drug helps some people survive longer,(not an average which includes people who survive longer mixed in with people who don't) , then is it worth it? I also think it is easy to speculate on what extra time is worth when you arenot the one faced with a terminal illness, and your view would likely change if you had to make that decision for yourself
