from what you are describing, there isn't enough information to make a guess as to what they meant.

I have a suggestion. Take a notebook with you to the meetings. take notes as the doctor explains things to you. If you are confused as to what the doctor means, ask them to clarify themselves. NEVER leave a meeting until you understand everything the doctor said. Then go home and re-read your notes... If you missed something, write it down as a question to ask next time you have an appointment. Repeat this at each meeting.
