To Anon..I had heard so much good about Hospice but this experience coupled with what you have said is souring my perspective on them. I think there are new laws that are mandating hospice to allow for more treatments that would maybe be lumped into palliative care that transitions into hospice. So far we found out the chemo will be paid by my group insurance which is primary...his Medicare is secondary. The cancer treatment ctr. is an hour away and Dr. is only in clinic only one day a week so we will need a contact so we have been encouraged by the center to stay with hospice. We will talk with Dr. tomorrow and also about needing an order for immediate care for elevated temp, etc. which will may indicate stent blockage. Hospice nurse said they don't hospital pt. with just a temp. I'm livid about this. I think my insurance will only accept this particular hospice but will check into this again since I really dislike this nurse we are dealing with.
