My husband is being treated for an unspecified recurrence. His CA19-9 jumped from 12 to 2,800 over three month period. Parcretatis, psuedo-cyst, lots of pain and blood clots formed, but local onc. and onc. at JHH unable to identify a specific site for recurrence (multiple scans/MRI's/ PET). Several suspecious area so local onc agreed to treat numbers. After two infustions of single agent gemzar his platettes droped to 16; two wks off chemo and the count had rose to 235! Now I'm worried about THAT. He never had such an increase when taking chemo after whipple. Am I borrowing worry, or is this as unusual as I suspect? Any help appreciated. Praying for comfort and good treatment for all.
