Has anyone had treatment in this area, with a pancreatic cancer expert? Oncologist? Surgical oncologist?
Mitch, I am sure you have heard that is is best to work with a Pancreatic cancer expert, and it is harder to find these if you are not in a major city or near a major medical center. Are you near either one of those?
One step at a time. Biopsy as soon as possible, and line up the doctors. It is true that the surgery for a mass in the tail is MUCH more manageable the the classic Whipple surgery for pancreatic masses in the body/head of the pancreas. This is good for your dad.
I'm so sorry this is so upsetting for him, and can only imagine what it is
like for you to see him like this. I was in a very similar situation, but
for my mother. But she was devastated, as her cancer was everywhere and
there was no chance for surgery. Remind your father that he is NOT your
'aunt in law' and that his disease is different, hopefully caught soon, and
surgery may still be very possible for him if needed. He can fight this!!!
