dx in nov with a 3.5 mass close to portal vein-did six weeks of gemzar and tumor was 2.9-did an additional 5 weeks of rad with more gemzar-no change on ct ,but had whipple in june.almost did not get through the whipple as there was more trouble with the portal vein than seen on the ct- but did complete it.tumor was 40 % dead. staged at 1b(2.9) with some 'abnormal cells at margin and no lymph involved.abnormal has been defined many ways to us- none that make it very clear. perhaps 'cooked from rad, maybe pre cancerous.

the whipple recovery is rough, rough. then we added gemzar and managed to complete 2 of the 4 months the onc would have liked. the symptoms were overwhelming and we felt that we couldnt cope physically with the extreme fatigue, cramping, bloating, 15 pounds of fluid that was drained from the abdomen, etc.

so now, we will take a treatment break. Its scary-however, each moment, each conversation each phone call, each wait has been scary. We will find a way to make peace with our choices. We have done so so far and hope to continue to be able to look back and say that was the right choice for us.
