Stacy J. posted something last week regarding chemos and combos that might be of interest to you, so I thought I pass it along...

Here's a copy and paste... Love, Pat

I know lots of folks here are on combos that seem to be working quite well. Plenty of us have only received gemzar, however. I find the perception that if you're not on a combo you are somehow shortchanging yourself. This perception seems to be much more common among caregivers rather than PC patients themselves, i.e., the ones that are getting poisoned.

Like it or not, Gemzar is the standard, clinically-tested standard for PC. That's the reality. Yes, we see folks for whom the combos appear to be working. But the fact is we don't see the many for whom they don't work (same for Gemzar-only).

As an evolutionary biologist, I suspect that--as with HIV--multi-drug combos will become de rigeur for PC. You have to be ever mindful that cancer mutates, and that some of these mutations will allow resistance to drugs. Still, you don't use a nuclear bomb when a handgun will do the trick. If the handgun works, you're gold. If the handgun doesn't work, you still have the nuclear option. If you go nuclear from the get-go and it doesn't work, you're SOL
