Hi Susan, I am so sorry that your grandma has been diagnosed with GBC. First, as you can tell by the posts, this is not an active board. You may want to post on the pancreatic side of this board because some of the issues for caring for patients are similar, particularly because both cancers show up in the liver. The participants on that board are highly supportive. Ask lots of questions of the doctors. I believe that a bypass will make your grandma more comfortable and allow her digestive system to work better. My mother got gbc at age 76 years and everything they did was aimed at increasing her comfort level and quality of life. As the disease progresses, doctors can control pain quite well. Most gbc cases are discovered at later stages when the cancer has spread, simply because there are few symptoms. Bbc patients can have as long as 1 to 1 1/2 years, but each case is different.
