Hi Everyone - Needing some information regarding lung mets. Here are the details:

Dad, now 77, dx'd 12/06 w/ 2.5 cm to head of pancreas. Underwent GEM/Cis/Tar and radiology followed by whipple 8/07 - Clear margins/no lymph involvement. No further treatment. His CA19-9 numbers were always within the normal range, even in the beginning.

Then, 6/08, a smooth-edged 'mark' was scene on regular CT on his lung. Using VATS wedge resection, it was discovered to be some sort of fungal infection.

Now, just a few weeks ago, a spikey-edged spot was discovered just a few inches away from where the first one was removed on his lung. No other spots were seen anyplace else. Also, one of his liver numbers was elevated (as far as I know, not CA19-9).

We're heading back for further testing next week. He was put on a course of anti-fungal meds for a few weeks. He'll have PET plus lung CT.

My question is: For those of you who've had these one-off spots appear and they do turn out to be mets, what has been your course of diagnostic testing/treatment? I've heard that needle biopsies aren't conclusive if they come back negative. Just curious about your experience post dx.

Thanks!
