Pancreas CancerWhat are your options? was posted 10/31/2010 12:38 pm by DD
I think now would be the time to have some serious discussions with your
doctor(s) about every treatment option and the risks of each, side effects of
each, pros and cons. If it were me I'd get multiple opinions from various
doctors - radiation oncologists, chemo oncologists, even gastro doctors who
are familiar with PC. Each will have a unique perspective.
And you have to figure out what you want. Do you want to fight as hard as
possible? Just control symptoms and try to slow cancer growth? Something in
the middle? Figuring out what you want may guide your decision too...and
make sure your doctors know what your priorites are. Some people choose to
fight with every medicine that's out there. Others choose minimal treatment
to maximize quality of life and minimize trips to the doctor's
Please also talk to your family about your wishes and make sure everything
financially and legally is in order. Sometimes this cancer progresses with a
vengance and I know it would bring your family a lot of peace if you made
sure everything like that was taken care of, 'just in case.'
