My mom had bone mets when she was diagnosed in 12/09. The things that helped her pain were starting chemotherapy (she was initially on Gemcitabine/Oxaliplatin) - it all went away. Until she started chemo, Opiods (morphine class of medicines - oxycodone is one type) also helped. When pain is not improving or when they are worried the bone might fracture, radiation can help pain tremendously.
