My mom would get Gemzar of Friday. The fatigue tends to hit a few days after for her - usually Monday.

In terms of appointments - yes someone should always be with her. Usually 2 or 3 of us tend to always go in with my mom and its still amazing how people tend to interpret things differently. So many drug names, why to take, when to take, can come up that it is almost essential to have a 2nd set of ears.

In terms of chemo, one thing I would definitely recommend is trying to always schedule with the same chemo nurse. One, your mother will grow more comfortable with him/her, but more importantly they will tend to remember stuff. One time our regular nurse went on vacation and the 'new' nurse was not giving my mom the same usual set of pills (steroids and nausea meds...). We noticed the pill container didn't have the 'usual' same contents and made a comment which caused the nurse to go back and lookup in the notes. Wasn't a major deal - but scary just the same.
