CT vs MRI was posted 08/30/2010 07:56 pm by StacyJ

So I had my fourth CT and first since my whipple surgery. Each time drinking the barium prep becomes more and more difficult. I really, really had to suppress vomiting today, and I barely got through a third of my second bottle when I said I'm done. I just couldn't stomach any more.

I'm afraid I am going to meet my doctor tomorrow and he's going to say the scans weren't good--you need to do another CT. At which point I will not handle it well.

I know some here are allergic to the iodine contrast and do MRIs. What is the prep for an MRI? From the little I've read an MRI can be superior to a CT for identifying soft tissue tumors (e.g., liver mets). Is there any hope of me getting my doctors to switch me to an MRI instead of a CT for monitoring?
