Dad was put on Xeloda and Tarceva and his situation has declined ever since his first cycle. Those drugs really knocked him around. He had blood clot in the lungs and had some blood transfusion. He needs to go to the hospital at least once a week to drain his fluid and have sodium, protein drips etc.
The oncologist stopped all chemo treatment and referred him to palliative
care. I have told that he's only got a couple of months. I know many of you
have gone through this. I thought I was prepared after reading so many
stories on this board but it's very difficult when reality hits. Seeing your
loved ones suffer so much is heart breaking. My dad has spent all his life
working to support us and he is supposed to retire this year and enjoy life.
I suggested to get a second opinion from another doctor but he refused. I
guess he's sick of all the tests and is giving up. He is so weak now that he
struggles to have a shower. It's really great to see those of you who stay
strong mentally and keep fighting.
