You're absolutely right - no question here is a dumb question. Unfortunately, there are a lot of narrow-minded people who get their jollies by posting hurtful responses. Ignore them. Most people who buy into these petty issues are looking for some sort of recognition.

I have no answer to the question you asked, but there are certainly possible explainations that might be rooted in folklore or certain customs within certain cultures. You might want to address your question to someone who teaches anthropology or sociology at a local college.

My continued positive thoughts are with you and your aunt Suzi.
