Dear Audrey, I am so sorry your m-i-l has been dx with this horrid disease. I only know to well what you are going to go through as I lost my Dad in only 26 days from dx at the age of 61, I hope I am worst case scenerio. First off there is no need for this to be painful, there is lots of pain meds out there and just make sure you find one that works and don't give up trying until you know she is comfortable. As for a second opinion, I think ultimatly it is up to the patient, but that is not to say to give up hope. There are many wonderful stories on this board of great sucess with different chemo drugs and clinical trials. But it comes down to what she wants. My suggestion would be to be as positve as you can with her and give her all of her options. Make every day special in some small way. You and all of the family will be added to my prayers as you walk this road. Always come back to the board with questions, someone is always here to help. Your friend, nance
