That isn't too bad; when my husband got down to 8 they gave him a transfusion, but it mostly stayed in the nines; like 9.3 for a long time; now it is coming back up after treatment is done. You really can't eat enough to bring it back up, we were told; so that is why we did the transfusion and got the iron pills. The other posters are right about hydration, sometimes they would give my husband a bag of saline after chemo; when they did that, the side effects were even less; maybe he needs to drink more fluids; chemo can really dehydrate you.
