Hi Lyn - my mom has had a port since 12/06 and has never had an infection. That said, she is very protective of that port and while it has been used for things besides chemo (recently, TPN), she really doesn't 'allow' the port to be used for blood draws or ordinary infusions. When it is used, we watch for absolute sterile technique. She has it flushed every 3 weeks to keep all working well. Overall, it has been a blessing to her - no regrets at all! Best of luck - Janet
