Kennedy appears to be a surgeon. Why didn't a radiologist examine the scans?

I'm also surprised he dismissed neoadjuvent treatment out of hand. I admit I'm a bit biased because I am currently undergoing neoadjuvant chemoradiation. There is a chance my tumor might grow around vessels or I get mets to the liver during my treatment; either of these could mean my 'potentially resectable' tumor has advanced to the non-resectable stage. But you know what? If I'd had the surgery and then found out later my cancer wouldn't respond to chemoradiation I'd have put myself through a major surgery for nothing.
