My mom's platelet count dropped to 20 after her last cycle. She has gastritis and started bleeding. (This after two units of blood and SIX units of platelets the day before) Threw up almost 2 liters of pure blood. I honestly thought we were gonna lose her then and there. But for the Grace of God she, somehow, managed to form a clot and stopped the bleeding on her own. Her platelets were 108 before her last treatment and dropped that far from one infusion of Gem/Cis.

I don't believe there is really much you can do to increase your platelet count but, please, don't push for chemo with low counts cause it would be an awful shame to fight the good fight against this monster of a disease only to be lost to a spontaneous bleed.

After all this, her platelets last week, which was one week after the bleed, were at 158. Not too shabby if you ask me.
