My husband, age 69; same type situation; 6 mos gemzar, 31 radiation treatments; awaiting Whipple end of april. Sometimes he says the enzymes give him diarrhea; it depends on how much you eat and what kind of food; for a fatty meal he needs more enzymes; he started at 155# then down to 126; now back up to 141#. He started on Creon but now takes Ultrase 20; we think the creon worked better for him; anyway, this is what the medical oncologist told us; it depends on your poo; if you have diarrhea, it may be too much enzymes; if your poo is clay colored and floats, or has a greasy film on the top of the water, it is probably not enough enzymes. It is all a big experiment; and changes on a daily basis. It is very possible if he is having diarrhea, it is too much enzymes, but not necessarily. My husband had lots of diarrhea after chemo and radiation; getting better now. He also takes Lomotil up to 8 a day for diarrhea; check with your doctor, if he is having lots of diarrhea, lomotil would probably help; it is about the only thing that works for my husband. If he has a bout of diarrhea, he takes two lomotil; if he has another bout, he takes one; up to 8 per day. Good luck to you!
