Hi, Chris

So glad that your dad is recovering well. Many good wishes to you both. My husband this year did the 3 weeks on 1 week off cycle. Six months. He always got IV fluids either before or after the Gemzar to keep hydrated. Apparently, side effects really vary, but here's his experience. I copied the common side effects from the Gemzar website home page. I'll make 3 lists:

Symptoms Experienced: hair loss, tiredness, nausea, constipation, muscle aches, low blood cell counts (red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets)

Symptoms Not Experienced: fever, infection, rash, vomiting, diarrhea, numbness or tingling in toes or fingers

In addition: hearing loss (came back after chemo), restless leg syndrome, weight loss
