My elderly father (npc) was in Hospice care at home a few years back. Aides almost 24/7...he was rarely alone. My mother (who had been with both her parents when they passed), truly believed she would be right by his side when the time came. I had a strange feeling this was not going to happen, and I was correct. One aide left at 5:30...my mother went in his room..she left the room at 6:40 to put something in the microwave for herself...he was gone in 5 minutes...and I will always believe he planned it that way. Yes, my mom was very upset and angry, but I reminded her she was 'there', but just a room away....which gave her some comfort...I think.
