I am 48 years old I was diagnosed with stage 4 with mets to the liver last June, June 19 2008 to be exact. I have 2 children 19 and 14, I did not think I would be here today. I am with an oncologist who tells it like it is. Yes, I know my life will be cut short, but I have already lived past the 3-6 months you read about. My doctor does not give me an expiration date. I have faith in God, and he has been with me everyday. I know all people are different, I am lucky to be able to handle the GTX treatment, and I have side effects, fevers, lost hair, feel like crap 4 days out of the week. But, I am here to be with my family. I am at work right now because I am on a break from chemo until July 13. I just went for MRI on Monday, praying that this one comes back with good news as the last 4. Shrinkage in pancreas and mets diminishing on liver. I have the best support system. SO, yes it is a horrible diaease, but try to stay positive and go to a good oncologist. I will say a prayer for your friend. God Bless.
