As some of you know, my husband, Gordon is going in on July 8th. I was reading some old posts and looks like most or all patients spend some time in ICU after. Is that the standard? I don't know of any patients that had the whipple that didn't spend a few days in ICU.

Also, will he become diabetic? Some do become a diabetic others don't.

How common is that? Does his age and general condition, which are very good, help or are we dealing with an 'equal opportunity' disease regardless of age and condition? P.S. he has had 8 monthls of chemo and tolerated really well. I think general over all health does come into play as well as a skilled surgeon and a large hospital that is able to handle any situation that may and could arise. I hope that helps Hugs Lillie
