Yes, hernias are common after the whipple and even though his pc is not operable it does not mean that a surgeon can't repear the hernia. So long as he's healthly otherwise for surgery, they can do something.

The only draw back is if he's on chemo they will have to stop and allow some recovery time before he can re-start. If it affects the quality of his life-then get it fixed.
