I returned home late last night. Mom seems to be doing better in most ways, but still has confusion. Wednesday was a long day at the Dr. and her chemo treatment. I visited privately with the oncologist about moms confusion still going on. Monday, mom will undergo a brain scan and bone scan. Dr. said it is possible she could have some cancer in the brain area. Her meds. are lowered and she seems to be doing quite well without much pain. Her confusion still goes on although at times she is pretty sharp mind wise. Questions like who is the president(mom answered J. Carter) and is it summertime or wintertime(she first answered summer then changed to winter). Dr. also said he feels mom should do well continuing chemo. If it were to be stopped, we are looking at 4-6 weeks left for her. I know that is only a guess from him. He did say that by continuing chemo, she may have up to 9 mths! That totally threw me! Again, who knows. Gemcitabine helps with pain control and Cisplatin is the heavy duty drug that fights off the cancer. Mom has lost 1 lb. in the last week. Our oncologists are also in touch with the famous Dr. Tempero at UCSF. She was moms first oncologist in Omaha, NE. Mom is at a nursing home. Things are changing for the better for mom out there. I personally wrote a letter to the Admin. and Dir. of Nursing at the home. Told them I didn't like the way things have been handled. They immediately got the letter, found me and we had a good discussion. The Dir. of Nursing at the home now knows what we are going through with mom. Her mother had p.c. 17 yrs. ago. She lived 9 mths. So, Cheryl knows exactly what things are like. She personally will see to it that mom gets great care. She intends to personally visit mom on a weekly basis and see to it that she is helped with her eating and all her care. I had mom walk with a walker ou
