Hello, My dad was dx'd with PC 12/25/99, had a Whipple attempt by Dr. Yeo at Johns Hopkins, unable to do because of mets, so had bypass etc. Since then has been managing pain with MS Contin or Oxycontin long term, then morphine sublingual for breakthrough. 4 weeks ago had a celiac alcohol nerve block. PC has progressed despite Gemzar treatment at Virginia Mason in Seattle. About a week ago dad started having periods of confusion, which worsened until we hospitalized him this Monday. So far they know he has an E coli cystitis. MRI is negative for brain masses, organ functions are normal, they tried to do a spinal tap today but failed due to fused vertebrae from an old surgery. They will retry tomorrow. They don't believe this is drug related. Meanwhile he is gradually becoming confused more of the time, and has torn out 2 IVs. They have him restrained now, without IV's. My poor mom is so stressed out. Has anyone run into confusion in a loved one like this? Any insights would be very much appreciated. Please feel to email me directly if you like. Thank you and God bless. PerrySeattle, WA mpstan @home.com
